The Cloud OTDR Pro as a remote OTDR solution for large fiber optic networks

The CloudOTDR Pro is designed for large-scale fiber projects, such as Fiber To The Home (FTTH), where hundreds of fibers must be measured quickly and reliably without a physical presence in the POP. Thanks to the internal multi-wavelength OTDR module, accurate measurements and error detection are easy.

External optical switches, configurable from 60 to 144 ports or more, make the system flexible and scalable. With the built-in fiber optic communication module, multiple sites can be efficiently connected remotely and monitored via CloudOTDR software. This results in maximum efficiency, centralized management and complete control over complex fiber optic networks, while eliminating the need for technicians to be on site.

Cloud OTDR Pro mainframe

The mainframe is installed centrally and performs measurements and monitoring, then transmits the data to the cloud. It has multiple connections, including:

  • A power port for the mainframe
  • Power and communication ports for the optical mechanical switch
  • An antenna port for communication over the mobile (4G) network
  • A LAN connection for locations where no mobile network is available
  • An Auxiliary port for connecting a proprietary OTDR for independent fiber optic measurements

Optical mechanical switch

To the mainframe of the CloudOTDR you connect an optical mechanical switch. These switches act as an extension of the system and is intended for switching between fiber optic fibers at the front end. On each mainframe you can connect a direct optical switch, but in case of need a switch behind switch can also be placed.

Pre- and post-tensioning reels for accurate fiber optic measurements

When performing accurate OTDR measurements with the CloudOTDR Pro, pre- and post-tensioning reels (launch fiber stacks) are used. These reels are connected to the output ports of the optical switch and allow you to connect the desired fiber channels to the fibers to be measured. This prevents reflections and dead zones in the measurement and gives you a full view of the fiber link.

In larger CloudOTDR Pro configurations, with optical switches with many channels, multiple launch fiber stacks may be required. This ensures that all fibers in the network, even with hundreds of connections, can be tested reliably and consistently.

Frequently asked questions about the Cloud OTDR Pro

Do you have questions about the operation or features of the CloudOTDR Pro? Below you will find answers to the most common questions. That way you can quickly discover whether this CloudOTDR solution fits your fiber network and projects.

The CloudOTDR Pro is an advanced OTDR solution that allows you to remotely measure, test and monitor fiber optic networks. The cloud-based OTDR software allows you to centrally manage measurements, analyze results and quickly pinpoint failures. Ideal for large-scale fiber optic projects such as FTTH.

The CloudOTDR Pro is designed for parties working with large or complex fiber optic networks. Think network operators, contractors, installation companies and service providers managing or implementing FTTH projects. With the ability to perform OTDR measurements remotely and monitor networks via the cloud, the solution is ideal for those looking to combine efficiency, scalability and accuracy.

The CloudOTDR Pro allows you to perform OTDR measurements completely remotely. Through the cloud software operate the OTDR unit and analyze the measurement results, without being physically present in the POP. This saves time and enables large-scale monitoring of multiple sites.

The CloudOTDR Pro uses external optical switches that are configurable from 60 to 144 ports or more. Also, these optical switches can be used sequentially. This allows you to efficiently test and manage hundreds of fiber optic connections through one central OTDR solution.

The CloudOTDR Pro is designed for large-scale and complex fiber optic networks, while the CloudOTDR Lite is ideal for smaller projects or less extensive monitoring. The Pro version features an internal OTDR module, supports external optical switches up to 144 ports or more, and allows remote management of multiple sites. The CloudOTDR Lit is more compact and intended for situations where fewer ports and simpler management suffice. Both systems work with the same easy-to-use cloud software, so you can easily scale up as your network grows.
