HAS measurements are often performed using OTDR launch cable reels that have not been calibrated. This can result in erroneous OTDR measurement values. These erroneous readings can occur due to Mode Field Diameter (MFD) differences between two optical fibers being spliced together. On the OTDR, this often appears as disproportionate attenuation (high loss) or an optical gain (gainer). When using a set of calibrated OTDR launch cable reels, the problem is no longer visible on the OTDR. This set consists of two calibrated reels equipped with SC/PC-LC/APC and SC/PC-SC/APC connectors.
