In addition to hardware, software is also outsourced to Indian companies such as HCL, Wipro and Tech Mahindra. Tareq Amin, director and CTO of Rakuten Mobile, sees a huge opportunity for Indian companies in the 5G market. Indeed, this project gives them a chance to become the main hub for telecom infrastructure. Currently, most manufacturing for telecom takes place in China and Taiwan, but India can take a big step forward with this project, in an industry desperate for new alternatives in other countries. With this, Rakuten poses a direct challenge to major players like Huawei, Nokia and Ericsson in the field of 5G networks.

Rakuten has held talks with more than 50 global telecom companies that have expressed interest in their technology. These companies are looking forward to the launch of the Rakuten network in Japan, which will take place in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka this September. Later, the network will be expanded globally.
